WOW! What great fun at the 1st Annual Better Basics Goat Tying
Invitational held July 16, 2010 at the Wyoming State Fairgrounds in Douglas,
Wyoming!
30 Better Basics students from Indiana, Montana,
Florida, South Dakota, Colorado, Oregon, Nebraska, Wyoming, Iowa, Utah, New
Mexico, British Columbia and Alberta accepted their invites to compete for
$1,000.00 in added prize money in the four jackpot catagories.
The days events started off with a team drawing where
participants drew for a team color as money was awarded for the team with the
fastest combined times in the 3 head jackpot. Teams also competed in a ground
tying relay later in the day. The 3 head jackpot recorded some fast
times in each round, with numerous 6 second runs. After the main 3 head jackpot,
a 5 head ground tying jackpot took place. Girls competed on five different goats
for a combined fastest average time on their ground work. The day's competition
concluded with a much exciting team ground tying relay. Goat Tyers ranged
in age from college, high school, junior high and junior divisions. Open
(college) and high school competitors recorded straight times, as junior high
school and junior aged competitors received a handicap for their younger age
level with either 1 or 2 seconds off per run on horse work and half a second or
1 second off ground work.
